Driving at the Dominican Republic

Transit Regulations

In Santo Domingo, people drive at the right. Visitors with their current driving license can use it in the country during a maximum period of 90 days, without any additional tramits.

The top speed limit in speedways is 80 kph (38 Mph); at urban zones, 60 kph (28 Mph) and 40 kph (19 Mph) in the cities, unless you see a specific top speed signal.

Gas stations usually work until 10:00 p.m., but there are some stations laboring 24 hours.

Do not exceed the speed limit indicated by the sign.

Don't turn left.
You will find this signal in cross streets. Stop before crossing.
Traffic in both ways.
       

Decrease speed and let the other vehicles pass.

"U" turns not allowed.
Keep at the right lane.
Do not park your vehicle near this signal (at least 10 mt.).
       
You can only turn right.

Caution, slippery road when wet.

Do not turn right.
You can turn left or keep going straight.
       
   
End of divided road. Traffic flows only in the direction indicated by the arrow.
   


How to Interpret traffic lights

      Steady Red: Stop; until light turns green.
Flashing Red: pare; allow others to pass and proceed to cross when you are sure nobody is going to cross the intersection.
Steady Yellow: light is changing to red; get ready to stop.
Flashing Yellow: take caution. check well before crossing an intersection.
Steady Green: Advance (take the caution of waiting some seconds after the light turns green).
Green arrow: You can advance in that direction.
